2014 Mazda 6 vs. 2014 Accord in Amarillo
Interested in how the 2014 Mazda 6 and the 2014 Honda Accord compare? Each of these mid-sized vehicles offers exceptional safety features and incredible performance capabilities. Here’s what Southwest Honda, your Amarillo Honda dealer, thinks you should know about how they differ:
Mazda 6 vs. Accord: Safety Ratings
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named both the 2014 Mazda 6 and the 2014 Honda Accord Top Safety Pick Plus models. The title of Top Safety Pick Plus was only given to 22 vehicles this year and only five vehicles in the midsize, moderately priced cars class. However, it’s important to note that the 2014 Accord performed better in individual IIHS crash tests than the 2014 Mazda 6. And the institute gave the Accord an overall evaluation of “Good,” while the Mazda 6 was only able to achieve an overall evaluation of “Average.”
Mazda 6 vs. Accord: Performance Specifics
Overall performance is impressive in the 2014 Honda Accord and the 2014 Mazda 6. The Mazda 6’s 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine produces a little more torque than the Accord’s: 185 lbs.-ft. vs. 181 lbs.-ft., which allows the Mazda 6 to accelerate a little more quickly than the Accord. Additionally, the Mazda 6’s larger front brake rotors allow the vehicle to stop a few feet shorter than the Accord from high speeds. Despite these advantages, though, the Mazda can’t quite measure up to its Honda counterpart in terms of performance.
For starters, the 2014 Accord offers a larger fuel tank and larger tires. Plus, it boasts the ability to tow up to 1000 lbs. and an engine control system that can shut down half of its engine’s cylinders to conserve fuel. The Mazda 6 has no towing capacity or similar engine control system. Furthermore, the Accord’s standard continuously variable transmission allows the vehicle to maintain peak horsepower on the road. Without CVT, the Mazda 6 offers a less powerful feel and arguably less efficiency overall.
